A Short Checklist
- A note of allergies and other medicines you take.
- Your passport, because the prescription is linked to your passport number.
- Cash or a card; some pharmacies prefer cash at night.
- Your e-prescription on your phone, or a printout.
- The packaging or name of the medicine you normally take.
The on-Duty Pharmacy System
- At night you may need to ring a bell or knock, as the on-duty pharmacy often serves through a small window.
- Bring your passport, cash or a card, and your old medicine packaging.
- The name and address of the on-duty pharmacy are usually posted in the window of every pharmacy in the area.
- Pharmacists can advise on minor problems such as mild stomach upsets, insect bites and sunburn.
- Some medicines are sold only with a prescription, and controlled substances need a physical prescription.
- A rota decides which pharmacy in each district stays open overnight, on Sundays and on public holidays. This is the on-duty pharmacy.
Kalkan: What to Know Locally
Kalkan’s steep hillside streets, villa pools and boat trips bring turned ankles, sunburn and sea-urchin spines. In smaller villages there may be only one or two pharmacies, so the on-duty pharmacy can be some distance away.

Before the 1920s Kalkan was a small Greek fishing village called Kalamaki. Tourist tip: stroll the old-town lanes, enjoy the harbour restaurants and take boat trips to Patara and Kaputas beaches. Galleries and boutique shops sell crafts and linen.
