Getting a Bed Rest Report While in Turkey
Need a rest note for your employer, school, airline or insurer after falling ill in Turkey? Here is what a bed rest report is, how to get one, and what it cannot do.
A bed rest report, sometimes called a sick note, is a document from a doctor stating that you were examined, what the problem is and how many days of rest are advised. Travellers ask for one to explain a missed shift, to support an insurance claim, to rebook a flight or to cancel a tour.
What a Bed Rest Report Includes
The report is written after a consultation. It gives your name and passport number, the date of the examination, the diagnosis or main symptoms, the recommended days of rest, and the doctor’s details and signature. Reports can be issued in English.
How to Get One
Request a video visit or message us on WhatsApp and describe your symptoms. The doctor assesses you, decides whether rest is medically justified and, if so, issues the report. We cannot issue a report without a consultation, we cannot backdate it to days before you were assessed, and we cannot recommend rest if it is not medically needed.
What It Is Not
This is a private medical report, not an official social security sick leave certificate for people insured in Turkey. Your employer, school or insurer decides whether to accept it, so ask them what format they need before you apply. For insurance, keep the invoice, the medical report and any receipts for medicines together.
When Rest Is Not Enough
Rest at home suits many viral illnesses, tummy bugs and minor injuries. See a doctor in person, or call 112, if you have chest pain, difficulty breathing, a high fever that does not settle, severe pain, confusion or any other worrying symptom.
