How to See a Doctor in Fethiye as a Tourist: Guide & Tips
Feeling unwell in Fethiye? Eight practical tips for getting English-speaking medical help quickly, from video visits to pharmacies and emergencies.
Falling ill during a trip to Fethiye is more common than most visitors expect, especially after sun, boat trips, paragliding and swimming injuries. The good news is that you can usually get help the same day, and you do not have to struggle with a language barrier.
1. Decide How Urgent It Is
For chest pain, difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding, loss of consciousness or a serious injury, call 112 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department. For everyday problems such as tummy bugs, urinary infections, colds, ear pain, skin rashes or sunburn, a doctor consultation is usually enough.
2. Talk to an English-Speaking Doctor by Video
A video consultation with Dr. Elif Yasbala, who speaks English, German and Turkish, works from your hotel room, villa or apartment anywhere in Fethiye, including Fethiye centre, Oludeniz and Gocek. The on-demand doctor is available 24/7, so you do not have to wait for opening hours.
3. Looking for a Walk-in Doctor Clinic in Fethiye?
Many travellers search for a walk-in doctor clinic in Fethiye. Private clinics and hospital outpatient departments in tourist areas often welcome walk-in patients, but waiting times, fees and English-speaking staff vary. A video visit is a quick alternative with no language barrier, and the doctor will tell you if you really need to be seen in person.
4. Ask About a Hotel Visit
In selected areas a doctor can visit you at your hotel or villa. Message us on WhatsApp with your location to check availability.
5. Get Your Prescription
If medication is needed, the doctor sends an e-prescription by WhatsApp or email. Show it on your phone or print it, then collect your medicine from any pharmacy (eczane). Out of hours, look for the on-duty pharmacy (nobetci eczane).
6. Prepare Your Details
Have your passport details, travel insurance policy, a list of your regular medicines and any allergies ready. A photo of your medicine packaging helps.
7. Use Your Travel Insurance
If you are insured, message us on WhatsApp before your visit so we can guide you. Keep the invoice and prescription for your claim.
8. Know What Cannot Be Done Online
Controlled substances such as strong painkillers, ADHD medication and benzodiazepines cannot be prescribed online, and online visits are not for life-threatening conditions.
A Short History of Fethiye
Fethiye is built on the ancient Lycian city of Telmessos, and the rock-cut tombs carved into the cliff above the town, including the Tomb of Amyntas from the 4th century BC, are still its landmark. An earthquake in 1957 destroyed much of the old town, and nearby Kayakoy, a village abandoned after the 1923 population exchange, still stands in ruins.
Social Life and Nightlife in Fethiye
Fethiye life centres on the harbour and marina, the old bazaar area of Paspatur and the sunset promenade at Calis Beach. Gocek, a short drive away, is a quiet yachting town with an upmarket marina, while Oludeniz is known for its lagoon. Nightlife is lively in the bars around Fethiye marina and on the bar streets of Hisaronu, with a more relaxed beach-bar mood in Oludeniz. Drinks, sun and long days on boats are a poor mix for hydration.
